Snapchat ads in Saudi Arabia: what works for businesses

Why Snapchat ads matter in Saudi Arabia
Snapchat is part of daily life in Saudi Arabia, not a side channel. Snap's own figures say you can reach 90% of people aged 13 to 34 in Saudi Arabia on Snapchat, and that Snapchatters in KSA open the app nearly 50 times a day (Snap's guide for Salla stores). The reach figure is based on Snap's internal data for Q2 2024.
Your customers are probably already there, and they check the app often. The hard part is not finding an audience. It is making an ad people stop for, and knowing what happens after they tap.
Who Snapchat ads suit
Snapchat works best for businesses that sell something people decide on quickly, or somewhere they visit in person. From our work in Riyadh, it fits:
- Restaurants and cafés: new menus, openings, weekend offers and delivery.
- Beauty and wellness: salons, clinics and product brands, where a short video shows the result.
- Retail and e-commerce: seasonal sales, new collections and online stores on Salla, Zid or Shopify.
- Events: ticket sales and awareness in the weeks before the date.
- Apps: installs and sign-ups from a young, mobile audience.
- Local branches: driving visits to one location in a city or district.
It is a weaker fit when the buyer is a procurement team or a sale takes months. For B2B, Google Search and LinkedIn usually do more of the work.
Snapchat ad formats and the goal each fits
Snap lists its formats and what each is for on its ad formats page:
- Single Image or Video ads: a full-screen vertical ad shown in Stories and Spotlight. Snap calls it the format most recommended for new advertisers. Use it for awareness, website visits and remarketing.
- Story ads: a series of images or videos people tap through. Good for explaining a product, a menu or an offer in a few steps.
- Collection ads: a main image or video with product tiles that link to your shop. Built for e-commerce and always-on selling.
- Dynamic ads: ads built automatically from your product catalogue, showing each person the products most relevant to them. Best for stores with many products and for remarketing.
- Lead Generation ads: an in-app form, pre-filled with the user's profile details, so people can share their information without leaving Snapchat (Snap on lead generation ads). Useful for clinics, property, education and any service that calls customers back.
- AR Lenses: a branded camera effect people play with and share. Best for awareness and engagement around launches, Ramadan and National Day.
- Commercials: non-skippable ads shown inside Snap's curated content. Standard Commercials run 3 to 6 seconds, and longer versions are non-skippable only for the first 6 seconds. Use them for brand awareness.
A simple rule: start with Single Image or Video ads, add Story or Collection ads once you know what sells, and keep Lenses and Commercials for launches and big seasons.
Targeting
According to Snap's targeting page, you can use:
- Location and demographics, including age, gender and language.
- Custom Audiences from your own customer lists, such as phone numbers or emails.
- Pixel Custom Audiences, built from people who visited or took action on your website.
- Lookalike audiences, which find new people who resemble your best customers.
For a local branch, a tight radius around the location often matters more than any other setting. For an online store, your own customer lists and Pixel audiences are usually the strongest signal.
Tracking: Snap Pixel and Conversions API
Without tracking, Snapchat can only report views and clicks. With it, you can see purchases, bookings and sign-ups.
- Snap Pixel: code on your website that records actions such as viewing a page, adding a product to the cart and completing a purchase, so conversions can be attributed to your campaigns (Snap for Business).
- Conversions API (CAPI): sends the same events from your server, which helps when browsers block or lose data. Snap's developer guide explains that if you send the same website events through both the Pixel and CAPI, you should use the Pixel ID so they can be deduplicated. CAPI also covers app events and offline sales, such as in-store or phone orders.
If your store runs on Salla, Snap offers an extension that connects the Pixel and CAPI without custom code (Snap's Salla guide).
We set up both and check that each event fires once, with the right value, before budgets go up.
Creative that works on Snapchat
The ad itself decides most of the result. What we see work:
- Vertical and full screen: shoot in 9:16 from the start. A cropped landscape video looks like an ad people skip.
- The first seconds: show the product, the dish or the result straight away. Logos and slow intros can wait.
- Arabic and Saudi dialect: speak the way your customers speak. A natural Saudi voice usually feels closer to the platform than formal Arabic read from a script.
- Sound on, with captions: use voice, music and real sound where it helps, and add on-screen text so the message still lands for anyone watching on mute.
- Real people and phone footage: content that looks like a normal Snap often beats polished studio work.
- One clear action: order, book, visit or download. One per ad.
Snap recommends split testing audiences, creative and placements, and running creative tests for a few weeks to gather enough impressions (Snap for Business).
Budget and bidding
There is no fixed price for Snapchat ads. You pay through an auction, and cost depends on your audience, objective, creative and the competition that season. Ramadan, Eid, White Friday and National Day are busier and usually cost more.
Snap offers three main bid strategies (Snap for Business):
- Auto-Bid: Snapchat sets the bid for you. A sensible start for most accounts.
- Target Cost: aims to keep your average cost per action at or below the amount you set.
- Max Bid: sets the most Snapchat may bid for you while it looks for the most efficient cost.
Two practical points. Give a new campaign time to learn before changing it: Snap's Salla guide advises avoiding changes in the first four days. And set a budget large enough to produce real data, not a few dozen clicks. Our own management fee depends on scope, and we send a clear written proposal after a short call.
Measuring results
Judge Snapchat on the goal you set, not on views alone:
- Awareness: reach, frequency and cost per thousand impressions.
- Traffic: clicks, cost per click and time on site.
- Sales or bookings: conversions, cost per conversion and revenue from your Pixel and CAPI data.
Compare these with your own sales data and GA4. Snapchat often starts a journey that ends on Google or Instagram, so look at the total picture, not only the last click.
For a Riyadh beauty and wellness chain, we ran Snapchat alongside Google, Meta and TikTok and delivered 88,000+ Snapchat clicks at 0.40 SAR each. You can read the full case study.
For two other Saudi brands, Snapchat has delivered 156,434 swipe-ups at 0.38 SAR each over 16 months, and a conversions campaign brought 152 purchases at 25 SAR each, with 14.6% of swipe-ups ending in a purchase. See the Snapchat case study.
How Snapchat works with TikTok, Meta and Google
Snapchat rarely gives its best results alone. A common split:
- Snapchat and TikTok: reach and discovery through vertical video, especially with under 35s.
- Meta (Instagram and Facebook): content, remarketing and messaging, with strong e-commerce tools.
- Google: capturing demand when people search for you, your category or your area, plus Maps.
The same creative idea can run on Snapchat and TikTok with small edits, while Google picks up the searches those ads create.
When to hire an agency
You can run Snapchat ads yourself in Ads Manager. Bringing in an agency makes sense when:
- You advertise on several platforms and need one view of the results.
- Tracking is missing, or you are not sure your conversions are real.
- You need a steady flow of new Arabic creative every month.
- Costs are rising and you do not know why.
Karaz is an official partner of Google, Meta and TikTok, and our in-house team writes, shoots, edits and runs campaigns in Arabic and English from Riyadh.
